SHALBORNE

2023 I Feature Film I Amoux Films I 87′

‘Shalborne’ tells the story of a Victorian woman’s fight against patriarchal ideology as a metaphor for all those who rise up against oppression and hope to have a voice. It explores the powerlessness of the disenfranchised, the injustice of traditional systems resistance to change and the helpless plight of the refugee who is wholly dependent on the mercy of others. Exploring themes of love, marriage, kindness, prejudice, corruption, homelessness, financial dependence and the rights of the individual it is an honest look at the possible relationship between the oppressor and the oppressed, the benefactor and the blessed, asking the question does anything actually change when we take a risk, speak up and try to make a difference or do we just get shot down and sent back to where we came from?
